Most towns have regular markets at least once each week. Many have very old origins and are still held in historic market squares. A wide variety of goods are sold. Most have a wide variety of foodstuffs : local seafood, herbs, fruit, vegetables and wines mingle with hams and cheeses from the mountains.
There are also irregular markets selling specific goods (antiques, horses, plants, wine etc.) in main towns.
Impromptu rural farmers markets appear according to season and availability of crops. This is particularly during the fruit season. Similarly, many fisherman sell fish direct from their boats on the coast.
We've put together a list of more than 550 regular markets within reach of Languedoc.
