History Mediobanca is an Italian bank founded in 1946 by Enrico Cuccia. Initially, the bank participated in the reconstruction of Italy after the end of the Second World War. Originally, funds were only available in the form of medium-term loans. The bank became one of the largest in Italy and has now expanded its operations into Europe offering a full range of mortgages, leasing, factoring, consumer credit, securities and private asset management. Since it's inception, Mediobanca has taken decisive roles in nearly every major merger, takeover and industrial restructuring of Italian companies. Their final and perhaps greatest coup was the decisive role in the takeover of Telecom Italia by Olivetti and Roberto Colannino. For many years the bank was led by founder Enrico Cuccia, first as managing director then honorary president. After his death a merger took place bertween Mediobanca, Capitalia and Unicredit. |
