    Delice du Liban
    Place du Marche, Sommieres

Run by the infamous Elie, this small, informal Lebanese restaurant came about from the success of his Saturday morning market stall in Sommieres, which he still runs (buy your herb, cheese or meat filled crepe there to go with your pichet or bottle from the bar on Saturday lunchtime, as a hard earned rest after the market.) and while we are on the subject, Elie has a delicatessen in Sommieres too, which you can find at 17 quai Cleon Griolet, Sommieres Tel 04 66 71 60 20 (open Monday to Saturday)

Our group was lucky enough to eat at the Delice on Elie's first opening day of this year and we were truly spoiled by his generosity and his natural flair with the food.

As a Lebanese food virgin - I really didn't know what to expect. I was also concerned that the food would be too hot and spicy for a lot of the French members of our party. I was surprised and totally wrong.  The food was so delicately spiced and very aromatic - you could really taste every individual ingredient in each dish (and there were plenty of dishes.) - it reminded me very much of holidays in Greece and Turkey and a really refreshing change from French food (speaking as someone who has lived in France 9 years and fancies a change from the classic dishes occasionally).

Seating is outside under the arches in the market square of Sommieres, so it stays cool on hot Summer days (and safely away from short showers on others) on teak furniture with cream coloured linens. Dishes are served on blue mosaic patterned traditional pottery to set the scene. Very much a personal service offered here.

Recommended any time, but especially for small groups: as ordering a selection of small dishes and sharing is the thing to do and ensures you have a taste of everything. Great for kids (and adults) who like to eat with their fingers!  Be warned: very busy on Saturday lunchtimes!

Bathroom reached by two steps - the rest of the restaurant is on the ground floor and outside.
