Herault is the most varied departement in Languedoc. It is bounded to the east by the river Vidourle, to the north by the Cevennes and to the south by coastline. Herault has coastal plains, and in the north rugged countryside. Major towns are Montpellier, Beziers, Lodeve, Lunel, Agde, Sete and Pezenas. Herault has the largest population and strongest economy of the Languedoc departements. It is well served by TGV, autoroute and low cost flight links. It is a popular area for vacation and residence.
